Fall sailing begins the week after school starts and ends the last weekend in October or early November.
Spring sailing begins the first week of March after a month of twice-weekly team workouts.
Practices are MWF + weekend regattas or Saturday practices if no regattas. Varsity practices two days per week, and JV practices two other days per week with 1/2 varsity one day and 1/2 varsity the other day.
The Sailing Team sails in Eagle Harbor and they can often be seen rigging the boats on a float after school.
Following COVID restrictions and CDC/WA/NWISA recommendations during fall and spring seasons, the high school sailing team is wearing facial coverings, conducting daily screenings, socially distancing when possible, and cleaning hands and shared equipment.
Sailors arrive and depart in three waves staggered 20 minutes apart so that the preceding group can rig/derig and depart our sailing float before the next group arrives. They have assigned boats and permanent partners as well as spaced-out dock spots for their boats.
We're making excellent progress in our boat handling, communication skills, and knowledge of strategy, tactics, and rules; most of all, we have fun being on the water together!
Regattas + Competitions
All fall regattas and inter-team scrimmages were canceled due to COVID, but we will be able to participate in a limited number of regional spring regattas now that we're in phase 2.
The Northwest Interscholastic Sailing Association (NWISA) posts our regatta schedule, NORs, and results. Please note that our team will not necessarily attend all of the regattas listed on the schedule. For information, please email email@example.com and/or firstname.lastname@example.org.
