Mandatory Gear and Equipment

Here is a list of the gear you will need to be comfortable and safe as we sail this season.

​

  • Type 3 personal flotation device (PFD) in good condition, that fits well.

  • Waterproof jacket

  • Waterproof pants

  • Waterproof sport watch with countdown timer

  • Short rubber dinghy boots or shoes with flexible rubber soles that can get wet (worn with warm hiking socks) 
  • Two masks, one lightweight buff-style you can use while sailing and one kept in a ziplock bag in your lifejacket pocket to keep it dry.

This gear needs to come to all regattas and practices.

Other Useful Gear

  • Fleece or wool hat

  • Sunscreen

  • Polypro inner layers

  • Sailing gloves (Atlas knit with rubber palms or Wondergrip all rubber with lining are cheap options)

  • Polarized Sunglasses

There are many sailors who outgrow stuff in the four years with the team, and you may be able to hunt up some used gear. E-mail appeals to other BHS Sailing families have worked well in the past.  FoBIHSS does provide some support options please contact one of the Board Members for information.
